Oxicuba project

Oxicuba lifting project first phase

The project's first phase is preparing our CC 2800 crawler crane to install a tank at Oxicuba's Cotorro Havana plant. The tank arrived on July 22 2022 and has been loaded by ship cranes onto our Euro axle 5 +2 trailer. The tank is over 28 meters long, 5.67 meters wide, and weighs 85 tons. The tank needed to be transported from the port of Havana to Cotorro which is a trip of approxiametly 15 kilometers containing lots of electricity cables and even a viaduct. At the destination the tank is moved from a horizontal position to a vertical position and must be placed by the crawler crane within a 36-meter radius. The images of the transport can be found down below.

Phase two

The pictures now show the transport of a tank over 28 meters long, with a diameter of 5.26 meters and a weight of 65 tons, as well as a production tower of 27 meters long, 3.6 meters wide, 4.1 meters high, and weighing 37 tons. This tank and production tower, which everyone in Cuba knew couldn't be moved, were transported nearly 140 kilometers last week to the Oxicuba plant in Bayamo, where they will be installed in about a month.

We mounted two cranes at the bridge, removed the tank from the trailer, put it on what are referred to as "heavy elevator rollers" that are 17 cm high, and skidded the tank across the bridge (skidding). Following the railroad bridge, we reloaded the tank onto the trailer and proceeded to the next place in Baire, where the tank and production tower could not cross. We would not have sufficient height here to avoid skidding, contrary to the other bridge.

Since the planned 160 ton crane was not available, we had to lift the tank and production tower over the bridge using a complicated maneuver. We then loaded them back onto the trailers and drove the final 30 kilometers to the destination, where they were unloaded and temporarily stored before being raised into position and set on foundation.

Definition of "skidding"

"A support on which heavy objects may be stored and moved short distances by sliding"
